Bearing failure reduction and more than 100K € cost saving - A company was experiencing a short service lifetime from the bearings used in the casting of gas turbine blades. NSK undertook an Application Review of the existing design which included an inspection of the failed bearings. An extremely caustic solution combined with high loads and misalignment was causing lubrication and seizure problems. An alternative wheel design was proposed using a cylindrical roller bearing, with improvements in sealing and lubrication. This resulted in significantly improved performance and doubled lifetime. NSK Contributes to Museum Renewal! NSK was awarded a certificate of appreciation by Lake Biwa Museum for financial contributions to redeveloping parts of the museum. NSK expands production of ball screw units for automatic emergency braking! https://www.nsk.com/company/news/2020/0204a.html Automatic emergency braking systems help prevent car accidents by scanning the road ahead of the vehicle and engaging the brakes to avoid potential collisions. The systems will be required on all new vehicles in the US, EU, and Japan from around 2021-2022. NSK began mass production of ball screw units for electric-hydraulic brakes (enabling automatic emergency braking) in March 2019. The units are a compact and lightweight combination of high reliability ball screw and support bearing made possible by NSK's world-class ball screw technology and over a century of expertise in bearings. We are aiming to produce 10 million units a year globally by 2026, and just established a second line to respond to increasing demand.
